Cricut Cake

Well, since our old cutter's solenoid went dead (the machine was basically a KNK/Redsail/SignMax - same machine, different companies, different colors) we've been cutterless for a while.  The other night some good friends from college came by for an evening out and dinner and dropped off a few very happy surprises:
1.  A book I had loaned them that I was sure they forgot was mine.
2.  Several books for the boys that their boys had outgrown... And our boys immediately devoured!
3.  A Cricut Cake.

Oh, and a little tip:"find an old Sure Cuts A Lot copy."

Mission accomplished.

So my thoughts on the Cake
1.  Only 5 levels of pressure?  I'm just used to a sign cutter instead of a craft cutter, I guess.
2.  If I didn't have SCAL it would be very limiting.  Or I would have to think up workarounds, which I don't want to do.  Being able to scan something, then outline it in Inkwell, then cut it is just so much more useful.
3.  I'm not sure I like the lawsuits.  Would not buy the product due to these unless it was on deep discount.  If you build a product and open up a USB port and the product becomes very popular, someone is going to reverse engineer the thing and figure out how to make it better.  Unfortunately, the USB port is on the razor handle and the blade company doesn't want a more versatile blade out there.
4.  I need a sharper blade!

More later.

Will have to pick up some fondant to see how that turns out.
